Community & Parent Liaison Program
Our objective is to meet the educational and affective needs of our students by effectively increasing parental involvement and maintaining open communication between parents, students, educators, and the community.
Each of our 15 schools has a Community Liaison who acts as mediator between agencies and individuals who become involved with our students.
Their responsibilities include the prompt intervention and creation of an action plan to help our students become successful.
To meet our goals we:
- Assist in monitoring school attendance, grades, and other measures of academic success. If problems arise related to these factors, we contact parents via telephone, email, or make home visits.
- Assist with the preparation of contracts and transition plans for students who are suspended, expelled, or habitually truant to school.
- Link and refer our parents with the social agencies in the community when their family is in crisis and those entities could potentially meet their needs.
- Provide or arrange for bilingual interpretation to our non-English speaking parents to assure that their concerns and ideas are heard and comprehended by those involved with the education of their children. If it is necessary, we transport students and parents between home and school in case of an emergency.
- Seek and convene with community leaders or otherwise serve as the network of communication to district leaders, students and families to offer ideas, express concerns, and work with parents for planning involvement with school activities in an effort to better serve the students in our schools.
